The dvd boxed set Adam-12 is one of those rare programs that are so engrossing, that it seems to zip along and be over before you know it. The action is nearly continuous, with almost no down time. Created by Jack Webb (Dragnet) and Robert A. Cinader (Emergency), the dvd sets Adam-12 does have some similarities to Dragnet, as the program also follows the adventures of two police officers on duty. The episodes are also based on actual cases, where the `names were changed to protect the innocent'.

Adam-12: the complete series box set focuses on showing the lives of the police officers and citizens of LA in a calm and efficient manner. Martin Milner and Kent McCord were perfectly cast to fill the roles of Malloy and Reed. I have to say, I love Malloy's attitude and his pointed way of getting to the heart of a matter and making people uncomfortable with the truth. It's also interesting to see how the relationship between Malloy and Reed changes and grows, even throughout the first season. It doesn't take long for Malloy to go from the seasoned officer angry at training a rookie to an endearing partner.

The dvd box sets Adam-12 was the radio call sign of the patrol unit that Malloy & Reed worked. In Los Angeles, the first digit (1), represented the division worked. "Adam" is the LAPD designation for a 2-person patrol unit; "12" was the beat area assigned. Although, Malloy & Reed could be seen patrolling the streets anywhere in L.A. from downtown to the Valley, they retained the division number 1, no matter where they were. In reality, you work the same disctrict each day and are assigned a zone in that district.

All in all, SHOUT! Factory is to be given major props for just getting this great show out the door, nevermind that transfers are BRILLIANT and while the extras are a bit tepid, they are there for a rainy day when Season Three is still on the drawing board... throw in handsome artwork and a meager price tag and you have a winner. And praise be NO FLIPPER discs! No not the dolphin, the discs that Universal thrust upon so many ruined boxsets (Dragnet, Quincy, A Team..)
