Many people like to pack a mouse and portable keyboard to make long-term work on a laptop more comfortable, 05 Feb, 2010 Views : 61 Comments ( 0 )

The Satellite's slight frame does mean it won't strain your shoulders, but one side effect of this is its slightly disappointing battery life - no worse than many other budget laptops, but too short to set off for a day's travel without half an eye out for the next mains socket. It lasted barely two hours while playing a DVD, but did better in our light usage test, going for just over three hours, enough for a short-haul flight. We've seen ultra-portables last as long as five hours, including Samsung(Samsung Laptop Batteries)'s Q45 (search for 122308), which weighs the same and costs only a little more . At least you won't have to wait around for the battery to recharge: it took only an hour and 14 minutes.

The notebook's 17in widescreen display is almost painfully bright, but some colours, such as flesh tones, look oversaturated. Backlighting is slightly uneven at the edges of the display and white areas have a grey tinge. The greyscale transition test looked smooth, but there was banding in our colour gradient test.

"Microsoft knows us very well, it’s worked with us for the past 12 years, all its mobile products are based on ARM," he adds. "It’s really an operational decision for Microsoft to make. I don’t think there’s any major technical barriers. Microsoft’s well aware of the technical support we can provide to them, PA3535U-1BRS,but it is an operational challenge for them, and one that only they can work out. We can’t really help them with it."

The Asus(Eee PC 1000 Battery) A7S's widescreen 17in display looks bright but the backlight is a little uneven. White areas have a blue tinge and we saw some banding in our greyscale and colour transition tests. It's fine for watching films but not ideal for viewing photos or image editing.

The glossy widescreen display is suitable for watching movies and editing photos. Colours looked rich and bright, and white areas were evenly lit and free of any colour cast. There was some speckling in our colour transitions test, but it's still one of the better displays in this group.

Many people like to pack a mouse and portable keyboard to make long-term work on a laptop more comfortable. It may also be worth packing an extra laptop battery just in case you find yourself away from a power source for a long period of time.

Thinking Straight on Management The new Intel Keyboard-Video-Mouse Remote Control (KVM Remote Control), features available with dual-core Intel Core i5 and i7 vPro processors work in conjunction with Intel® integrated graphics, bringing a stop to IT administrators' frustration with having to ask users, "What do you see?" Instead, they will see users' displays just as the users do and have full control of the PC, even if the operating system is inoperative. Previously, KVM functionality required appliances that cost as much as $200 and more per PC.

I'm making a judgment about the long-term prospects in our profession for the vast majority of practitioners today. I know several regional, national or international business continuity directors who get to travel, manage the work of others, make presentations at industry conferences, FPCBP115,and give interviews to reporters. But I hope they'll be happy doing the same thing in 2020 because I just can't see many of them moving up the corporate organizational chart. There may be exceptions, but I think they only prove the rule.

Nikon's Coolpix L100 and L20 were very popular models last year and actually continue to be well trafficked on CNET. That has a lot to do with their price tags and far less to do with their quality. I didn't review the L20, but the L100 was a fairly weak camera. (But it had a 15x zoom for less than $250!) Nikon is now announcing their updates: the Coolpix L110 and L22.

At 2.2kg, Samsung's X520 isn't really an ultraportable laptop. However, considering it has a 15.6in screen and a built-in DVD writer, it's a good 0.5kg lighter than most laptops of this size. If you can put up with its extra weight you'll be rewarded with surprisingly long laptop batteries life – it lasted seven hours in our light-use test. It doesn't feel as sturdy as previous Samsung laptops we've seen though. The black, grey and chrome casing feels lower quality - even cheap.
